In keeping with our commitment to provide superior care, Silver Care Center operates a specialized behavior/dementia management unit. This secured unit provides temporary placement for dementia residents with severe behavioral problems, particularly aggressive and combative behavior. The specialized unit, the first of its kind, is one of only four in the State of New Jersey.
Secured, Supportive Setting

The Pavilion accommodates 40 residents in a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment. The unit has an open and circular floor plan allowing residents to wander freely in a non-restrictive environment. This promotes independence in a structured, secure environment geared towards behavior management, while reducing the use of behavior-altering medications.
Why Are We Different?
- The design of the building promotes supervision but allows residents to wander freely, with an acceptance of their behavior patterns.
- The facility runs independently and is staffed specifically to meet the needs of residents with behavior problems. The staffing ratio is higher than a traditional nursing home setting with a highly trained and consistent staff (Social Worker, Dietician, Director of Nursing, Activities Director).
- Taking into account a resident's past interests and present abilities, programs are designed so that the resident does not lose his or her individuality.
- Direct care staff, known as "caring companions," do not just meet the physical needs of the individual residents, but are involved in all aspects of the resident's day.
- The Medical Director and Geriatric Psychiatrist are both Board Certified and are involved weekly in the design of the individual care for the resident.
Family Support
The integration of the family into the care of the resident is initiated from the date of admission. Through care conferences, family council, and family support groups, the staff provides communication links which give the family a better understanding of the disease process and coping skills, allowing the family to share with the staff who the resident was prior to the disease.
This environment is geared towards extreme behavior problems. When the resident's behavior ceases, the Social Worker will help the family with setting up a discharge plan to a less restrictive environment.
